Magic Beans

We did it...ran 8 miles!!  Great way to end the year!

We decided to try out some supplements and tried Sport Beans.  WOW.  What a difference. We were faster and felt stronger for the whole run. We were pleasantly surprised....and we've decided to call them magic beans.  We each only had one packet and spread them out throughout the run.  I am now a believer in the supplements/nutrition during your run. I want to try out some gels too.

Tomorrow will be a rest day. I'm a little stiff tonight so I'll probably walk on the treadmill tomorrow to stretch out my calf muscles.

Enjoy your new year's Eve....Go Pack! And Badgers!!

Happy Running.

No run today.......

Today was our planned 8 mile run.......but mother nature isn't cooperating very well today.  So we're going to wait.  We'll get it in this weekend for sure though!!!  No sense in going out in this miserable weather.

I'll hop on the treadmill tonight and walk on an incline.  That really, really helps to keep my calf muscles stretched out.

Stay tuned for details on our 8 mile run.  Happy New Year!  Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and successful 2012!!!  Happy Running!

Flights are booked!

We booked our flights today. Milwaukee to Sarasota. March 8 - 12th. $257.  No backing out now!

Friday we are running 8 miles. Yikes!

Do you eat anything on your long runs? Gels or anything? On our 6.5 mile run I felt wiped out towards the end.  I'm going to try a few different supplements and see if that helps.

Have a great day! Happy Running!!

Christmas run

Amber & I got up Christmas morning and got a 3 mile run in. And we had a guest....my yellow lab Hannah.  It was a little chilly....but a great way to start out a day that usually involves over indulging in holiday treats!

Today me, Rob and the dogs went for a 3 mile walk.  And today was our last Christmas....thank goodness! Too much food.

I plan to get up and run tomorrow. I'm off work til Thursday. Enjoy your week. Happy Running!

Merry Christmas!

Got up early this morning and Rob, the dogs and I went to the trails in Afton for a 3 mile walk.  Last night we went for about a mile and a half.  Trying to make sure we get some movement in with the all the extra treats we'll eat today.  Off to my Dad's tonight with an abundance of appetizers to be had.

Tomorrow Amber & I are planning to run.....3 miles.

Have a great holiday!

Up early this morning

I got up early this morning and jumped on the treadmill.  Ran 1 mile (alternating running/walking) and then walked the 2nd mile at a high incline.  The arch of my right foot is still sore and I don't want to push it.  I'm glad I got some exercising in......but not too much.  Hopefully a few days rest will help out.

I've been trying really hard to watch what I eat.......and I'm seeing better results in my running and the scale is actually starting to move too.  I haven't even had one Christmas cookie yet!  I do plan to have a few treats over the holidays but not over indulge.....when I'm on a good roll.....I don't like interruptions.  So I'm trying to be good over the holidays to keep a good thing going.

Today I got a $50 ASR gift certificate.  Very excited about that!!!

Have a great Christmas!  Happy Birthday today to Roger!  Get your runs in over the holidays.....except Roger!  Hope you are taking it easy!

Happy Running!

Short Run on Tuesday

Last night I wanted to get a 30 minute run in.  I started on the treadmill.......was 7 minutes into it and said....this sucks, I'm going outside.  So I put some warmer clothes on and went outside.  Ran for about 20 minutes outside....did stop once, when I stepped in mud and then had to try to get the 5 lbs of mud off of my shoes.  Once that was done.....I got back to running.  The inside of my arch on my foot hurts a little bit.  Must have tweeked it when we ran on Sunday.   I'm guessing it was something to do with being so careful on the ice.  So I'm trying not to over do it as we have a longer run on Sunday.....3 miles this week.

And nice job to Amber on her run last night.....she ran a mile without stopping!! WOOHOO!!!  Sunday we'll have to see how far we can run without stopping!  :)

Have a great week.....half way through the week.  Happy Running!

6.5 miles....

We did it! Half way there. 6.5 miles this morning.  Run .15 and then walk .10..... 26 times.  Trails were quite slick in spots so we were extra slow today...BUT WE DID IT!!!

We are probably going to invest in some Yaktrax. Anyone tried them?

I'm a little stiff....but I will walk on my  treadmill at an incline to stretch out my legs later.

Have a great week! Happy Running!!!

Tomorrow......... 6.5 miles

I didn't get as much exercising in this week as I had hoped.  Christmas parties,  a hitch in my knee and just too damn busy!  But today Rob & I took the dogs for a 3 mile walk.  I wanted to check out the bike trails to see if we'd be able to run on them tomorrow.  I think we'll be ok.....just have to be careful and pay attention.  Tomorrow is 6.5 miles.....half way to our half.  I'm excited!!!   I'll post details tomorrow.

Have a good weekend.  Happy Running!

So smart!

I have this one cousin named Roger and he is SO smart.....he suggested that I should walk on my treadmill at an incline on non running days....so I did tonight and what a GREAT stretch for my tight calves. He is so smart!! Thanks for the suggestions.  That is what I love about this blog....learning and sharing ideas. THANKS!!

Tomorrow I will run for 30 minutes....probably before work. So it is off to bed early. Have a good night. Happy Running!!

Weekly run

Tonight Amber & I got in our 30 minute run.  Not a bad night for a run on the trails!

My plan is to get on the elliptical tomorrow night.

Have a great week.

Saturday, December 10, 2011

BRRRRRRRRR!

I hit the trails this morning with the though of getting 30 minutes of running in.  Good thing I was bundled up....it was chilly out there!!

I ran the first mile without stopping and then I did a run/walk for every tenth of a mile on the 2nd mile.  Guess which mile was faster?  The run/walk.  I run faster when I know I get a recovery break.  This is exactly what my book is all about that I'm reading.  Either way......straight running or walk/run.....I'm off the couch, moving and feeling good.  So I'm happy.

Tonight I'm going out with some of my high school classmates......but I'm still hoping to run tomorrow.  My plan is to just have a "few" Bud Lights.......so we'll see how that goes.  Tomorrow's plan is 2.5 miles.....but increase speed.   Then next Sunday is 6.5 miles.  I feel like I'm on track with the training plan I'm following......which helps to keep me motivated.

Starting this next week I'm going to alternate with the elliptical.  This time of year is SOOOO busy but I really need to work that into my week too.

Have a great weekend.  Go PACK!!!

Stay warm and Happy Running!

2 Posts in ONE day!

I DID IT!!!!  I ran 3 miles without stopping.  Sometimes I feel like I could walk faster than I run.......but for now, I'm ok with that.  I'm guessing....and hoping that speed will come.  I'm not looking to "win" anything but I would like to be able to pick up my pace a little bit.

I'm guessing I'll be sore tomorrow.  BUT....it's worth it.  I'm on a good roll.....so let's hope it stays that way!

Oh and it was chilly out there.  The trails are so nice though......blocks a lot of the wind.  When dressed properly.......the cooler weather is fine with me.

Happy Running!

Legs

I haven't ran since Sunday.  My leg muscles have been pretty sore and tight since my weekend runs.  So I thought I better listen to my body and take a few days of rest.  BUT I'm going to run tonight for sure.  Feeling much better today.  2 days in a row is probably a little much......especially with the extended distance and straight run time.  This weeks plan is to run tonight, Friday night, walk Saturday and then run on Sunday.  On one of these runs.....I want to see if I can run 3 miles without stopping.  I know I can do 2......so I'll have to try for 3.

Have a great day!  Half way through the week!

Happy Running!

5.77 miles

We made it!!!  Furthest EVER!! Ran/
walked 1 min segments....then ran the last 8 minutes.  Next Sunday we're increasing our run time.

Can't wait to hear how Theresa does in the Tough Mudder! That looks pretty intense!!!

Monday will be a rest day for me. My leg muscles are pretty tight.

Happy Running! Have a great week!!

I'm slow.....But

I ran 32 minutes without stopping!!  Successful week.

Tomorrow is 5 miles.  Stay tuned for results tomorrow.

Did u run in the rain for the Jingle Bell run today?

Happy running!

Excited for 5 miles on Sunday

I'm REALLY excited for Sunday.  Looking forward to hitting that 5 mile mark!  Amber & I are running together Sunday morning.

I was going to run last night......but didn't.  So I will either run tonight or tomorrow morning.  I want to try for 30 minutes non stop.  I've had some long days at work this week and I've been pretty beat by the time I get home.   Maybe next week I'll shoot for running in the morning.

Good luck Roger, Tammy  and Lori on your run tomorrow!  Have fun!!!

Happy Running!

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Ran outside tonight.....

And I must say....I'm loving running in the cooler weather!  Tonight I ran for 20 minutes straight without stopping.  I ran for 15 minutes......run/walk and then decided to see how long I could go without stopping.  Set my goal for 10....then 15....then 20.  Next time.....I'm going for 30!  Tonight was my first night out by myself in the dark and I told Rob I'd be gone for 40 minutes so I figured after the 20.....I better head back.  I purchased a headlamp from ASR.......I love it!  It really, really helps a lot.  Amber, you are going to love it for when we run on the trails.

No, I'm not running the Jingle Bell Run.  Since I'm running 5 miles on Sunday......I'm trying to stick to my "plan" and I know Amber has to work at the Y on Saturday.   Sticking to a plan really works for me......keeps me focused and on track.

Good luck Roger & Tammy on Saturday......Lori is running too!  Dress warm!!!  Happy Running and Stay tuned.....hopefully I'll be able to report back with a 30 minute run without stopping!  I'm excited!!

Have a good rest of your week! Tina

4+ miles.......done!

Goal this weekend was to run/walk 4 miles.  Yesterday the weather was pretty crappy so I decided to wait until today.  Today wasn't a ton better.....but at least it wasn't raining.

So I went to the trails off of Afton Road.......set my Garmin for 1 minute run/walk.....32 times.  I figured this should get me to 4 miles.  I got back to my mile marker at 30 segments instead of 32....so I thought, I hope I hit 4 miles.  Well I did.  4.88 miles....with a 5 minute warm up and cool down in there.  My calf muscles are a little tight.....but otherwise I feel good.  Next weekends goal......5 miles.  And I'll probably run 2 or 3 times this week...on my treadmill.  Still trying to keep a good relationship with the treadmill for my short runs and do the long runs outside.  And on the treadmill I'm going to work on increasing my run time.....more running than walking.

Any luck hunting Amber?  Did you get any runs in?

Have a great week!  Happy Running!!!

Thanksgiving Walk

I had thought about getting up early this morning and going to Milton for the Turkey Trot run.  But I woke up at 2:30 am and was up for several hours......so when the clock said 5 am and I was still up.......I decided I wasn't getting up to run early.  So I finally fell asleep and woke up around 8:30.  I talked Rob into going for a walk with me.  We bundled up, put the dogs in the truck and headed to the trails off of Afton Rd.  We walked 3 miles.   I did a little bit of running with my dogs.  Our young lab, Roxy, is pretty energetic.  I tried running with her but she pulls so much and crosses over in front of me so much that it is no fun at all.  I discoverd today that our 9 year old lab Hannah is a great running partner.  She doesn't have to be on a leash and she stays right with me.  So her & I ran a little bit.  Good exercise for her and me!  So I'm thinking I may have found a new running partner when I'm running in the dark.  I will need to get her a reflective collar or light.

Thanksgiving dinner is done, dishes all done and I'm not overly stuffed.  And most of all......I feel good knowing that I got some activity in today too.  Now I'll sit on my butt for awhile and continue to watch the Packers beat the Lions.  Then if I can talk Rob into it......I'll put the tree up.  We'll see.

Happy Turkey Day!

Up early

I woke up early this morning with every intention of running outside.  I was scrambling looking for my long sleeved running shirt and couldn't find it.  After running around for 10 minutes I realized....I won't have enough time to run outside and get to work on time.....so I went downstairs to the treadmill.  My treadmill "chirps" when I'm running on it.  I'm sure Rob just loves it as he is still sleeping.   But he doesn't say anything.....he knows that I am training so he is a pretty good sport about it.

Plan today was run for 30 minutes. I've been running/walking 1 minute/1 minute.  This morning I did 2 minute run/1 minute walk.  It is always tough to get up early....but I'm always glad to be done with it for the day too.  I also find that I eat better if I run in the morning.

And I've come to an agreement with myself......or maybe an understanding with myself.  If I eat like crap......I run like crap.  If I eat good.......I have a good run.  So I'm trying really hard to remind myself how much better I feel when I eat good and have a good run.  If I can keep my mind right.....running is much more successful and enjoyable.

Don't eat too much tomorrow!  Get up off the couch and move a little tomorrow......during commercials for the Packer game anyways.  :)

Happy Thanksgiving!  And Happy Running!!!

Doing good....

I know, I know.....I need to get back to blogging again.
3 miles was good. I did it Monday instead of Sunday....touch of the flu slowed me down Sunday.
I bought a Jeff Galloway book and am reading it.  GREAT MOTIVATION!!!
I'll run again tomorrow. 4 miles this weekend. That will be a huge accomplishment for me!
Happy Thanksgiving! Don't eat too much!

HAPPY RUNNING!!!!

Training is under way.....

Week 1 of training.  Run 30 minutes 2 days this week.  Walk tomorrow.  Then Sunday 3 miles.

I'm thinking of joining the Y.  I might do a Group Power class 2 days a week.  Amber works there and tried the class this week and really liked it.  I think that would help me in my training.

Happy Running.  Have a great weekend!

Another date with the treadmill

I woke up early this morning and heard the rain.....I knew I wouldn't be running outside today.  So I got up, got dressed and went downstairs to the treadmill.  I did my same routine I've been doing.....15 one minute segments of running and then the same for walking.  I must say......even though I'm getting along with the treadmill now, I do prefer to run outside.

Big news for my friend Lori.....she told me she is going to sign up for the Chicago Marathon!!!  You go GIRL!  That is awesome.  I can't wait to hear all about her training!!!  Good luck!  And good for you!  I don't think I'll see a marathon in my future.....but stranger things have happened!

Have a great remainder of the week.  Enjoy the snow!  And Happy Running!

We ran together!

Last night Amber & I ran together!  First time in quite awhile.  And the best news........I think we are both relatively healthy......no pain/injuries.  YEH!!!!!

I haven't checked with Amber yet this morning......but as of last night, she didn't have hardly any hip pain at all.  And my knee feels great.  So now we're on our way!  The only issue I have is my calf muscles are so tight.  That is an ongoing issue for me but one I can deal with.

We ran 15 -1 minute segments, walked 15 - 1 minute segments.   We thought that was a good way to start getting back into running.  Next Monday we officially start our half marathon training.   Here is what we are doing:  http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/half_marathon.html

I'm really looking forward to it.  4 months!  124 days!  We'll be ready!!!

Happy Running!  Have a great week.

Date with the treadmill

This morning I decided I'd have a date with the treadmill.  I wanted to do 15 run/15 walk segments again....and I wanted to increase my speed.  So I set my garmin....and away I went.  I started with a slow 5 minute warm up and then started the 15 intervals.  I started out running at 4 mph.  I ended my last running interval at 5.2 mph.  I ended up going .16 further this time than I did last time.....for the same amount of time.  So I was happy with that.  I think I'm going to work on this same routine all week.  And then next week increase my running segments to 2 minutes and walking 1 minute....with increasing my speed each time.  This should hopefully put me in a decent spot to start the 20 week training program in a few weeks.

Enjoy your Sunday.  No Packers.  :(
Happy Running.  Take it easy with your ankle Rog!

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Good Luck!!

Good Luck to my friend Lori!  She is running her first half this weekend in Madison.  She has been training really hard and is very prepared.  You are going to do awesome Lori!  Proud of you!  Can't wait to hear how it goes.

How do you keep yourself motivated after you run a half?  Roger?  Tammy?  Do you sign up for another race?  Do you follow a training schedule?  Lori & I talked about this at lunch.  How do you keep running in your life?  How do you stay at a pace that you can run 3-5 miles 3 or 4 times a week?

Hope your ankle is doing well Roger.
Have a great weekend.  Happy Running.

Oh and my knee is feeling pretty good.  I'm trying to make friends with my treadmill....and we're past just being acquaintances now....working on becoming friends.   :)

Hotel Rooms booked

Amber & I booked our hotel room for Florida.  Our plan is to fly out on March 8th and then fly back on March 12th.  We're staying at the Hilton near the Sarasota airport.  Thanks to Amber....she had enough points for 2 nights free!  So that works.  So now we watch for flights.

How is your ankle doing Rog?

Tonight I'm going for a 3 mile walk.  Tomorrow I'm going to run/walk for 30 minutes.  I'm going to start out doing the first week of the 20 week program for a couple of weeks......work into it slowly with my knee.

Have a great week!  Happy Running.

Program

I've been looking online and found a half marathon training program that Amber & I are going to do.  Most of the programs have been 10-14 weeks.  I found one that is 20 weeks.  It is a program designed by Jeff Galloway.  It also incorporates the run/walk method.  With my knee....I'm thinking this is the way I'm going to have to go to be able to increase my distance.  We'll start the program in just a few weeks.  In the meantime.....I need to figure out what is the best ratio for running/walking.  I'm going to time myself this next week and see where I'm getting the best time running/walking a mile.  Once I determine that.......then that is what Amber & I will most likely use for our training and race.  Looking forward to getting started!

Glad to hear you didn't break your ankle!  That would have sucked.  Hopefully you are starting to feel better all ready.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!  Happy Running!!

Wednesday

I woke up early this morning so I thought I'd head down to my treadmill.  I have come to realize that if I put my treadmill on an incline of 3......my knee isn't so bothered.  If I have it at zero or one....it hurts my knee more.

My knee is still a little sore.....but not bad.  So I figured I'd just do 2 miles.  So I walked a half a mile......then ran/walked for about 20 minutes and then walked about 5 or 6 minutes.  Right now it feels pretty good.  I'm just wondering.....is the knee pain EVER going to go away or do I just need to figure out how to manage it?  I'm a little frustrated that I can't seem to increase my distance without suffering for a few days afterwards.  Do doctors really know what they are talking about?  Sometimes I wonder.  If at the end of October this is still hurting......I think I need to make another appointment.  Maybe with a different doctor.

Happy Running.  Tammy & Roger.....do you have any other races before the half in Sarasota?  I'm thinking about doing another 5K here in Janesville.  I think it is the first weekend of December.  I need to check my calendar.

Have a good week!
Amber - how is your hip feeling?

5K is done......

Saturday I completed my first 5K.  Glad to have it done.....but I wasn't overly thrilled with how it went.  We all know we are harder on ourselves than anyone else is......so although I'm glad to have it done, I would prepare myself a little bit more.

The wind was crazy on Saturday morning.  Running into the wind, I felt like I couldn't breath.  I felt like I'd never ran before.....I just couldn't catch my breath.  We started running and my pants started falling down.  I wear these pants all the time.....so that was distracting!  Then my hat blew off and my hair was blowing in my eyes....one of my BIGGEST pet peeves when running.   And my knee was hurting.  Geez......things just weren't going great.  I walked A LOT more than I wish I would have.  I didn't run very much the week or two before the race.....trying to make sure my knee felt ok.  I do think that hurt my running performance.  BUT......with all of that being said.....we finished!  And next time I intend to do better!

Amber went to a Physical Therapist this morning.  Her hip has really been hurting her.....so we were quite the pair for the race!  She has IT band syndrome and hip bursitis (Did I get that right Amber?).  So she has to work on stretching the IT band and strengthening her right side.  The PT suggested 10 days off of running.  I'm giving my knee a rest this week too.  Riding my stationary bike every day.   Hopefully then we'll be healthy and ready to continue our training!

Happy Running!!  And good job to Lori with her running!  She is kicking butt....and will be ready for her half at the end of the month!!!

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

5K

Amber & I are signed up for a 5K.  Next Saturday.  I feel like I really need to get this under my belt.  I'm not sure I'm 100% ready.......but what the heck.  I'm doing it anyways....it's just a good way to push myself.

Tonight our plan is to run a mile......walk 3 minutes, run another mile, walk 3 minutes and then see what else we can do.  I feel like we have the mile down......now we just need to build on that.  And I am completely ok with walking a little bit.  So maybe we'll get 3 miles in tonight?!?!

This weather is perfect for running!  Happy Running!

Have a good day. Tina

Over 4 miles tonight

Amber & I put in a little over 4 miles tonight. Ran a solid mile again and did other running too.  Progress!!
Wednesday's goal: 1.5 miles w/ out stopping.
HAPPY RUNNING!!!

Sunday run

Today's run was good! Amber and I walked for 10 minutes, ran for about 11. I had to stop and stretch my calf muscles. Then we walked for 3 and then ran a mile without stopping. Today I felt like we made progress and I'm happy with that!

Next weeks goal: Run 1.5 without stopping.  Check back for updates!

Happy Running.

Question...what do u wear for running in the cold? It was 35 degrees this morning. Bbrrrrrr.  Do u wear a hat? Ear muffs? Gloves?

Friday, September 30, 2011

We did it!

This morning we ran a mile without stopping.  And we felt like we could have kept going.....but we are doing that on Sunday.  We talked about our plan for the half marathon and how to train.

By the end of October we plan to be able to run 3 miles without stopping.  The month of November will are going to focus on 3-4 miles ....probably every other day.  Then we're going to follow a half marathon training program for 12 weeks.  I think that makes sense.....do you agree?

And a shout out to Lori ~ I work with Lori and she is training for her first half at the end of October.  She ran 10 miles the other day without stopping.  I know she reads this blog.....so I just wanted to say......Nice Job!  You are doing awesome!

Happy Running everyone!  Have a great weekend.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Almost...

Amber and I got up and ran bright and early this morning.  5:15 am in the dark.   This morning we got a little further than last time.  Ran .65 miles and then walked a tenth...and then ran the rest.  So we're close!  We'll have that down by the end of the week.  Then we'll work on running 2 miles without stopping.  Progression each time......that's all we need!   :-)

We're running again tomorrow morning so maybe tomorrow we'll hit a mile.  One day at a time......

Happy Running. 165 days to Sarasota!!

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Ran last night

Amber & I ran together last night.  First time in awhile.  Slowly getting back to a program again.  Our first goal.....run a mile without stopping.  Increase that each week.  Before we were always running in time segments.  We're going to try running for distance.....I think.  We're running tomorrow morning too.  Every other day for now.  Felt good to run again last night.  I could feel the tendons or whatever the problem is on the inside of my knee hurting a little.....but not too bad.  Maybe I'll always have that?  Who knows!  I'll just have to figure out how to manage it.

Great job Tammy & Roger on your half results!!  Hope you are enjoying Door County!!!!

See you in the morning Amber!  Happy Running everyone!

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Good Luck

Good luck to Tammy & Roger this weekend running your half!  Can't wait to hear how it goes.

I've been under the weather......terrible cold.  Coughing like crazy.  So I haven't ran all week.  The good news about that is.......my knee/leg feel great!!!  Pretty much back to normal.  So I'm very happy about that.

Leaving tomorrow morning for a tradeshow.  Taking my running gear with me and hoping to at least get a walk in.....depending on how my cold is.

Next week Amber......we need to get back at it seriously.  Back to our running program like we were doing.  If we don't.....we'll be in trouble come March!

Good luck again!  Let us know how it goes!  Happy Running!  Tina

Treadmill

I'm really starting to not like the treadmill. Last night I walked/ran about 25 minutes and had to stop. Every time I get on it....my knee hurts.
Not really sure what I'll do all winter....but for now....I'm staying off the treadmill!

I got up early this morning and ran/walked 1.75 miles. Knee was sore so I didn't want to push. I'll probably run tomorrow night and drag Rob with me.

Happy Running!

Saturday, September 10, 2011

Run....

Run is done for today. 6 three minute segments. 3.08 miles with warmup and cooldown. And I had a running partner again....Rob! He just said to me....."I hope your legs fall off for making me run." Apparently he is a little sore.  I told him it gets better...keep at it. :)

Happy Running!

P.S. Oh and the funny thing is...Rob runs in jeans. He won't wear anything else. So I say...whatever works!

Have a great weekend!

Rest day

Friday is a rest day for me.  Yesterday was the first day that Amber & I have ran together in quite some time.  We ran on the trails at 4:30 am.....it is pretty dark out at that time of the morning.   We did 3 minute segments 6 times.  That is the most I've ran and my knee feels fine today.  YEH!!!  So I'll do that same routine again tomorrow.....and maybe convince Rob to go with me again!

Amber & I are going to do a 5K in Janesville on October 8th.  http://www.fp108sj.org/14601.html
I'll be glad to have that under my belt.

Happy Running.  Have a good weekend!  Keep at it Rog!

Finished Week 1

Today I finished up the first week of the Advanced 5K training.  I modified the schedule to run every other day.  That is about all my knee can handle right now and I'm not going to push it and put myself behind anymore than I already am.

Tonight I even got Rob to run with me.  He was thrilled........but he did it.  He wants to get in better shape before hunting so I told him I would help him.  Hopefully he will stick with it.  Day 2 of exercising for him today.....so we'll see how the rest of the week goes.

How is running going for you Roger and Tammy?

Keep on running!

Today I'm "officially" starting the 5K program again

I've been doing things kinda willy nilly......running a little here and there but nothing too structured.  I think I need some structure back.  So I'm going to start the 5K training program over today and do the Advanced Beginner program.   Here's an example of the difference between the program I did before and what I'm going to do this time.......

Day 1 for advanced:  Run 1 min, walk 2 min, repeat 10X.
Day 1 for beginners:  Run 1 min, walk 2 min, repeat 3X.

I'm ready to tackle the advanced, get back into a training routine and build on what I had already accomplished.  Next week Amber & I are going to start running together again.  Looking forward to it for sure!!!!!

Since I wasn't able to run the 5K race before.....we're going to do one on Saturday, Oct 8th.  I figure the advanced 5K training should get me to where I need to be.

I'll report back as to how things go this week.....with officially being back at it.  Happy Running!

It's Monday and I'm ready to start a routine again

Last weeks short runs went well.....I'm ready to start a running routine again.

I got up this morning and went out for a little run.  I am trying really hard to take it slow....so this morning I ran 4 - 3 minute segments. That is on week 3 of the 5K training and I'm thinking I'm going to stick with the 3 minute segments this week....probably just increase the amount of times.  And I'm hoping next week to jump to 5 minute segments.  Increasing my distance a little every day.  Hoping to be around 2 - 2.5 miles by the beginning of next week.  So far so good.......

How is your training going? 195 days to Sarasota!

Have a great week!!!

2nd day of running

2 days of running!!  YEH!!!  Feels good.  Slowly getting back into the groove.  Both mornings I did about a mile and a half......ran more today than yesterday.  I promised the Physical Therapist I would start out slow.....so I'm keeping my promise.  I'm hoping within a week or so.....I can run a mile without stopping.  We'll see how the knee/leg holds up......I'll keep you posted!!

I can run again......starting next week!!

I went today for my last therapy appointment.  I can start running next week......slowly and for small time segments.  We agreed that I would start out with the training program for the 5K.  Obviously, I'm behind for the 10K training so I'm going to start on Sunday with the 5K training and go slowly.  I can't afford to lose more time.....so I'm going to follow rules.

I also got a bunch of core exercises from my therapist.  This will help with the weakness that I've got in my right side. I'm really looking forward to getting back to it.  And Amber....I'll be up to speed with you soon!!!!

Roger.....how are you feeling?  Running yet?  We're quite the group!  Tammy, how are things going for you?  Are you training for your next half?  When is that?  Sept 24th?

Any running yet Theresa?

FYI to all of you........200 days to the Sarasota race!!!  :-)

Have a great day! Tina

Therapy

Well HOPEFULLY.......I have one more week of therapy and then I can start doing a little bit of running.  That is our plan anyways.

Saturday I went for a 4 mile walk.......my calf muscle was so tight that it hurt to put weight on it after the walk.  My therapist thinks I was favoring my knee and walking on the side of my foot causing the cramping/tightness in my calf.

We're working on strengthening my right hip.  There is a BIG difference in strength and balance from my right to left side.  My right side is really weak. So hopefully all of the exercises I've been doing will help out!

I rode my bike tonight for 45 minutes.  I did yesterday too. That seems to help stretch out my muscles.

Hope you are back to running Roger.  And I'm hoping to be back running with you soon Amber!!

Happy Running!

3.5 mile walk

Day off for me today......and my physical therapist said I could go for a 3 mile walk.  So I just got home.....limping a little, but not bad.  I'm icing my knee now....and that always helps.

So slowly.....my knee is getting better, I think.  I'm doing my exercises and trying to build strength in my right hip, butt and leg.  Once I have some strenth, hopefully I won't have the issues with the sore muscles on the inside and behind my knee trying to compensate for the weekness.

Therapy next week.....Monday & Wednesday too.

Roger....how is your back?

Happy Running!  Have a great weekend!

PT Appt

Well I have more issues than I thought......

My muscles are so tight that the Physical Therapist was surprised I could run at all.  I've actually been told this plenty of times.  When I had meniscus surgery they had a hard time getting to my meniscus due to my muscles and knee cap being so tight.  So I wasn't overly surprised when I heard this today.  I was told the same thing when I went through therapy before.  And my butt and hip muscles are pretty weak......causing the pain on the front of my knee cap and the inside of my knee.  He gave me the technical term for what is going on......but I can't remember both of them....too many big words.  One was patella tendonitis but can't remember the one that has to do with the inside of my knee.

So I have 2 pages of exercises and will be going to PT 2 times a week for a few weeks.  No running right now.  I can go for walks......but he doesn't want me to venture far from home.  When my knee/leg starts to hurt.......I need to get off of it.  Staying off of it....is going to help the healing process.  I'm going to go to the 10K training program on Wednesday night.....but will probably walk a half mile and turn around and keep doing that same distance so I'm not too far away from the store.  We'll see how my leg feels tomorrow.  :-)  (Listening isn't one of my strengths!)

Strengthening and lengethening my muscles will help big time.  And I remember this from my PT before......so I plan on following them so I can get back to running.

The Physical Therapist is actually training for a 5K too.  So I kept telling him.....he has to get me into shape soon!

Happy Running!  Or biking for me.  Have a good week!

10k training

Tomorrow morning Amber & I start training for a 10k. 2 miles tomorrow plus some strength training. I believe my knee is ready to go.  I rode my bike a little today. The only time I have much pain anymore is going down stairs and if I've been walking a lot.  Tuesday I start physical therapy. So hopefully I'll be all back to normal SOON!

Happy Running. Have a good week.

Leg

My leg is feeling pretty good today.  Best it has felt in 2 weeks.  I've been trying really hard to stay off of it as much as possible and I've been icing it more too.  I seriously think staying off of it is the best way to get it to heal.

I'm getting antsy....I'm ready to run.  We got our 10K training schedule.  Looks completely different than our 5K.....it's about distance and not time.  So that will be a completely different way of looking at things.  It is a little intimidating....but we're up for the challenge, right Amber?

Have a great weekend.  I'm REALLY hoping to be running by Monday!  Wish me luck!

Back from the doctor

So the verdict is in.....I'm running tonight.  It isn't going to be pretty and I'm guessing I'm going to be doing more walking than running...and I'm going to be SLOW.  But I want to be there with our group!

So the doctor said....there are 3 muscles that come together on the inside of the knee.  Mine are all sore and swollen...causing the pain behind the knee, down the calf and quad at times.  This could be a reoccuring problem so I'm going to go through some physical therapy to learn how to manage this.  Also my knee cap is irritated and making weird noises.  She didn't see any reason why I couldn't run if I could tollerate the pain.  So I'll give it a try..... She also recommended getting on my bike a few days a week.

I talked to the doctor about the 10K training....she is fine with that as long as I do the therapy.  That starts next week.  Hopefully I'll be good to go!

Go Get 'Em Amber!  And hope that I can make it!  Results to follow tomorrow......

Happy Running!

Doctor appt tomorrow

Tomorrow is my doc appt. I think I'm dealing with more than a pulled muscle.  But I'm not a doctor....so We will see.

Big improvement today with my leg....so after my appt tomorrow the final decision will be made to run tomorrow night or not.... So stay tuned....

Happy Running!

I Want To Run!

Who ever thought I'd be saying that? Certainly not me!  Improvement with the leg today.  Best it has felt in over a week. I'm pretty sure I will be all ready for 10K training!

Stay cool. Happy Running!!  4 more days Amber!

Foam roller

Tonight we had our last group class.  We talked race strategy and how to prepare this next week.

I also talked to Kitty about my leg. She had me buy a foam roller and showed us all how to use it. So now I just use it and cross my fingers that my leg is better in a week.

I've been worried that I'm not ready and I could use two more weeks.  Now I'm just hoping to be able to run. It hurts to even walk...so that probably wouldn't even be a good idea.

So cross your fingers, toes and whatever else....say a prayer....and hope lady luck comes through for me and I can run.   I'll keep you posted!

I'm worried....

My leg isn't really improving....and I'm worried about the race. Tonight I wrapped and iced my leg. I hate the fact that I'm missing out on training time but I'm more worried that I've got 9 days and it hurts to put pressure when walking, let alone running.  But I have to be smart.  We'll see what tomorrow brings. If anything I'm hoping I'm good to go for Wednesday night's training. I'll keep you posted. Happy Running....stay hydrated!

Leg?

I am a little bit....well not a little bit, but very irritated with my leg. I believe I pulled a muscle Wednesday night. I've been limping around for a few days.  Every day it has gotten better so I'm hoping to make it through our run tomorrow morning. I'm thinking a few days off after tomorrow might be needed.  We'll see.  I just need to be in top shape for our race.  Wish me luck tomorrow.

Happy Running!

Holy Cow!

So last night we went to training thinking we were going to follow program...... 8 min intervals, 5X.  Well not the case......Brenda decided we'd shake it up a little bit again.  So we did about 5 minutes of walking.....then run for probably 4-5 minutes at a faster pace than normal, get to the bank parking lot and do 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats, 5 lunges on each knee....then start running again.  Run another 4-5 minutes and repeat again.  We did that 3 times and then got to rest a couple of minutes and catch our breaths.  Then we were to run all the way back.....just about a mile.  I was completely wiped out from the exercises.  We had to stop a few times on our way back.  The strength straining is certainly a weakness for Amber & I.  Once we got back to the corner....we walked around the corner and ran up hill 2 times.  It was quite the work out.  I'm really sore today.  Workouts like that make me feel like I'm not as far along as I thought I was.  I left feeling a little bit defeated.  BUT.....I know I have to shake that off and look at how far I've (we've) come in just 8 weeks.

We talked about our race plan a little bit last night too.  Brenda (Coach) suggests we run 1.5 miles and then take a walk break at the water station for a minute.  That seems a little overwhelming....so we'll see how it goes race day.  I know the adrenaline will kick in.  And the weather will play a big role in that too.

We stayed for the 10K information meeting last night.  There were 7 of us from the 5K training.  The 10K training certainly looks different......we run for distance and not time.  That will be a different way of approaching things.  We're going to do it.  Amber & I hope that it helps our endurance.  The program also incorporates strength training and I know we both need that too.

Our 5K training program started out with around 60 people.  Last night there were probably only 20 people there.  It will be interesting to see how many people actually run the 5K race.   We'll be there!  and we'll finish!

Have a great day.  Happy Running!

2 weeks from today.......

is our 5K.  I'm excited.....and nervous.

Yesterday Amber & I were talking.....yesterday's program was run 4 min, walk 2, repeat 4X.  That seemed easy.  We felt like we didn't run enough.  But....I said.....we have to trust that our coaches know what they are doing when preparing us for our first race.

Tonight's group run is going to be our toughest yet.  40 minutes of running.  Run 8 min, walk 2 min...repeat 5X.  The weather is perfect outside this morning......so tonight should be a nice night for a run!  I'm looking at this run as the same as our 5K.  Run 8 min, walk 1 or 1 1/2 is kind of what we are thinking we are going to do for our race.  So tonight will be the test.......are we ready for this?  I know we are.  We've followed the program pretty much 100%.  I feel like a 12 week program would be really good and I'd be more prepared....but since that's not the case....we'll be ready in 2 weeks.

Theresa, how is the running going?  I see you are going to the Kettle bell gym....are you running too?  I am thinking....and Amber too.....we need to work in some weight lifting into our program.  After we get through this 5K training and see what the 10K training program is like.....we'll have to put a plan together to add that in.

Tonight is our informational meeting for the 10K training.  I'll be out of town on the day of the race......but Amber is going to run it.  And then we're going to do a 10K in October in Madison.  Remind me to sign up for that Amber!

Have a great day.  Happy Running!  I'll let you know how tonight's run goes.

Sunday's Run was.....

BRUTAL!  The weather was awful.  Humidity was very high and breathing was pretty tough.  I felt like I was sweating out of every pore in my body.  Yuck.

Our program was to run 7 min, walk 2...repeat 5X.  We decided we were going to go to Monterey Park and run on the path for our 5K.  As soon as I walked out of the door at my house at 8 am and hit the hot air.....I knew it was going to be tough.  But it was tougher than I expected.  We got through the first 3 runs......barely.  Then we started the 4th.  I got half way through and had to stop and walk.  Amber did the same.  I just didn't have anymore in me to continue running.  So we walked the rest of the way.   At first I felt guilty for walking.....but then I remembered what a friend had told me.....a bad run is better than no run at all.  So I got over the guilt quickly.  (And Amber puked....so I knew conditions were tough!)

Saturday Rob & I had walked on the trails for 3.5 miles.   Still no running out of Rob....but I am getting him out walking every Saturday for the most part.

Today is a cross train or walk day.  I'll probably walk on my treadmill tonight.  Tomorrow is an easy day...... run 4 min, walk 2...repeat 4X.  Wednesday will be tough.  Run 8 min, walk 2...repeat 5X.  It isn't supposed to be as humid Wednesday.....so that will make it a little bit easier.

Wednesday night is our informational meeting for our 10K training.  Looking forward to that.  I'm curious to see if it will pick up where we are leaving off for our 5K training.

Have a great week.  Happy Running!

Rest day

Today is supposed to be a rest day........BUT I got up and ran a mile this morning.  I didn't run yesterday and I felt guilty about it.  Really?  I'm thinking this has become routine for me now and I don't want to break my routine.  So I do feel better knowing that I ran this morning.

Tomorrow is a walk day.  Sunday is a big run day.... run 7 min, walk 2 min....repeat 5X.  Amber & I are going to do Sunday's run on the 5K race path so we can familiarize ourselves with that path.

Amber's ankle is wrapped....taking it easy for a few days.  She said it is killing her not to run.....but she is following instructions from our nurse at work.  Good girl Amber.  :-)

Have a great weekend.  Happy Running.

Group Run

Last night's run was run 7 min, walk 2...repeat 4X.  I can handle the time just fine....it's those darn hills that kick my butt.  We run on the trail by Traxler park for our group run.  Our first run segment is up hill......and so is our last one.  I do have to admit that it has gotten easier...but it certainly isn't easy by any means.  Hills are tough!!  I hate starting out on the hills as I feel like I can't catch my breath...but again, it has gotten better than the first time we ran up the hills.  I thought I was going to die the first time.

Amber is out of commission for a few days......at least she better be!  She needs to let her ankle heal.  She was mad last night that she couldn't run.....she said walking sucks.  She said....who would have ever thought I'd be mad because I couldn't run?  Amber has become a RUNNER!!!

Today's run is easy.  Run 3 min, walk 2......repeat 3X.  Piece of cake.  I'm going to do it tonight after work.  I asked Rob if he wanted to join me.....he didn't seem overly excited about it but we'll see what he says tonight.

Rest day tomorrow.  Always happy to see Friday come.

Happy Running!!

SUCCESS!!!

As everyone knows.......we survived our first race!!!  WOOHOOO!!  And much to our surprise.....Amber & I both got awards.  I got 2nd in my age group and Amber 4th in her age group.  I'm guessing there were only 3 people in my age group.....but I'll take it!  :-)

Amber rolled her ankle 2 days before the race.....so that is causing her some pain.  I keep telling her.....don't over do it.  She's fought this battle before with her ankle and she says it will heal...just needs some time.  So I was pretty proud of her for battling through the race with ankle pain.  She has to take care of it so she can run the 5K in 3 weeks.

I was happy with my time.  12.44.  That was faster than I had "practiced" so I was pleased.  I did find the race atmosphere motivating.  I....and I know I speak for Amber too....prefer to start at the back of the pack.  I guess at this point I'm concentrating on my form, my breathing, etc and if someone is talking the whole time .....it can be quite distracting.  I'm guessing this will change as I get more confident in my running....but we'll see.

Seeing the finish line and having people cheer you on is quite motivating.  Rob was at the finish line when we got there.  I wasn't so sure I wanted him there at first.....I kept thinking....what if I can't finish?  But I did find that having the support there at the Finish Line is pretty cool.

3 weeks from tomorrow is our 5K.

We were up bright and early this morning and ran.  Tomorrow is our group class.  This really is becoming routine.....and I love it!!

Happy Running!  Oh and Great Job Roger and Tammy for the 10K!  You two are a great inspiration for me!!!!  And thank you for your support as well!

Sunday

I had originally not planned on running today.  We ran on Friday instead of today as Amber was going to be out of town.  BUT....yesterday I purchased a Garmin heart rate monitor/watch/timer, etc so I decided I wanted to try it out and see if I could figure out how to use it.

So I looked at our program and it was run 7 min, walk 2...repeat 5X.  So I thought....well I'll set my watch and give this a whirl.  I decided I would do it 3X.  Heading to Summerfest and will be doing a ton of walking so I don't want to have sore, stiff legs for tomorrow's run.  So I figured out how to set my watch and ran 7 min, walked 2, 3X.  This watch gives a ton of info!  It was much nicer having it compared to using my cell phone and app.  I know the Garmin has a ton of features....for now, I'm interested in the distance, steps, time and timer.

Well I'm off to Summerfest......  Rog, Tammy and Amber....see you in the morning.  I'm excited......Our FIRST race!!!!!!  Happy 4th!

Saturday, July 2, 2011

Friday's Run.......

Our goal was to run 2 miles straight.  Well we were close...and I'm calling it a success as it was the most running we've done without stopping.  We ran 12 minutes without stopping and then walked about 2 minutes and then ran another 10 without stopping.  The humidity never helps when we are trying to run but we're getting more used to it.

Today is a walk day.  It's pretty humid outside but I'm still going to go out for a walk.  I think it helps with getting used to the heat......so I'll just take plenty of water with me.

Amber & I are both pretty proud of how far we've come in 6 weeks.  Our first week we ran one minute segments.....now we're running a mile straight!  WOW.   We've talked about how we've really learned a lot about ourselves......mentally and physically.  And I never thought I'd LOVE running.  Thanks to Roger & Theresa for the encouragement to take on this challenge!

Amber & I are running on Monday in Milton....obviously not the 10K this year.....but next year!  So I'll look for you & Tammy!

Happy 4th!  Happy Running!!

Why is it so hard to run at night?

Amber & I both have a hard time running at night.  Our Wednesday night group run is NEVER our strongest run.  Tonight's run was run 6 min, walk 2...repeat 4 times.  Now you would think this would be a piece of cake......not the case.  We had to stop during the last 6 minute segment.  We had a couple of hills in the first segment and the last.  After running up a hill in the last segment.....I had to stop. When we run in the morning......we NEVER stop.  It's just not my strongest time of the day.  We are trying to figure out how we are going to run our 5K at 7pm and have a good run.  Any suggestions???

Up bright and early tomorrow morning to run again.  Happy Running!

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Our next test is to run....

2 miles without stopping.  We JUST decided we are going to try that on Friday.

This morning's run was run 5 min, walk 2, repeat 3X.  We did 4X and our last segment we ran 7 minutes.  After Sunday's success of running a mile without stopping......we're ready to try more!

So we'll report back as to how our Friday run goes.....wish us luck!!!  If we can do one mile.....we can do two!!  :-)

Happy Running!

Sunday, June 26, 2011

One mile without stopping = success!

Today's program was run 5 min, walk 2 min......repeat 3X.  Our plan was to run a mile without stopping.  We're slow.....so we guess it would be around 12-13 minutes.  So we did our normal 10 minute warm up walk....then did a 5 minute run.  My shins were killing me today.  So we walked a few minutes and then did another 5 minute run.  Walked a few more minutes until my legs weren't hurting......and then we set the timer for 13 and were on our way......1 mile without stopping!  And we DID IT!  Then we also did another 5 minute run on our way back.  We were pretty proud of ourselves.

The ASR group was out for their Sunday run on the same trails as us.  So we crossed paths with our coaches.  They are SOOO encouraging.  I really, really like them.  As they ran by us....they all said, nice job ladies, etc.  Their support and encouragement really helps.

Amber & I are going to continue to run a mile on top of our regular program on Sundays.  We think this will help us increase our speed and who knows.......pretty soon we might be running 20+ minutes without stopping!!

Happy Running! Enjoy your Sunday.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Wow, I'm sore!

Today's run was 5 min, walk 2...repeat 3x.  We are both sore so we didn't do anything extra today.

Friday is rest day. Saturday is walk day. And Sunday is our first attempt...and it will be successful....at running a mile without stopping.

Looking forward to rest day tomorrow. I'm sore from last night! I feel like I'm 80 years old today. But I'll get past it and be ready on Saturday and Sunday.

Happy Running!

We got our butts kicked tonight!

So we went to running class tonight thinking we were going to do 5 min intervals, 4X.  Well.....surprise.  We're going to kick your butts instead.

We did our normal walking warm up.  We walked to the YMCA.  Then crossed the street and ran to Ace Hardware. It was probably a 3-4 minute run, I'm guessing.  Then we got to the parking lot.....did some squats, lunges, etc.  Then we ran again to the the next stop sign.  Probably another 4 minute run.  Then we did some more exercises......squats, jumping jacks, squat and jump, etc.  Then we ran another probably 4-5 minutes.  Then we took a couple minute rest and ran back to the parking lot by the bank........did some more exercises..lunges, planks, squats, etc.  Then we ran back to the YMCA.....about 8 minutes, I believe.  I did have to stop once.  I felt like I never could catch my breath.  We got to the YMCA.....walked around the corner and then ran up the hill to ASR.  WOW.  What a workout!  That was quite a change that kicked our butts.  But we all made it.  We certainly did more running than we normally do.....at least it felt like it! Plus the exercises.......I'll be sore in the morning!  But even if we're sore.......we run tomorrow after work and back to our "program."

We did good tonight Amber!  Nice job!

Have a great night.  Happy Running!

Tuesday's run

On Tuesday we did our run in the morning.  Run 4 min, walk 2 min.....repeat 4X.  We did that but ran a little further the last segment....5-6 minutes.

Tonight is our group run.  Run 5 min, walk 2, repeat 4X.  Amber & I are both ready for the 5 minute segments.  We've been adding in some 5 minute segments for a few weeks now.

We've got our registration forms filled out for the Milton Mile run.  We've never really tried running a mile straight.......we've stuck to the program.  So we're thinking this weekend we are going to do a trial run and see if we can run a mile.  I'm pretty sure we can. We'll probably try it on Sunday.

The rest of this week is run 5 min, walk 2......repeat 3X.  Seems like we should have more repeats.....but next week we bump up to 6 and 7 minute intervals.  So this week appears to be a little bit of a break before we really start bumping things up.  5 weeks from today is our race!!!

Have a great day.  Happy Running!

30 minutes of running!

Run is done for the day.  Today our program was run 4 min, walk 2 min....repeat 6X and then run an additional 2 min.  We did the 6X and then ran 6 minutes....for a total of 30 minutes running!  We felt like runners today!!!

On Wednesday we jump to 5 minute segments.  5 weeks left to our run.  I'm excited!

We are running the July 4th one mile race.  It will be a good first run.....for us to get a feel for a race.

Today we also felt like we are getting a little faster.  I'm really proud of the progress Amber & I have made.

Tomorrow is a rest or cross train day.  I'll probably go for a walk.  Enjoy your Sunday.

Happy Father's Day Rog!  Happy Running!

2 Runs....

Last night was our group run....Run 4 min, walk 2 min...repeat 5X.  The weather was icky....rainy, misty and humid.  So that made our run a little tough.  We made it......including some runs up hills and then we added an extra 2 minutes at the end.

We talked with one of our coaches about how Wednesday night is never our strongest night.  She agreed that some people run better in the morning than at night.  She said she is the same way.

This morning we were up and at the trails at 5:15 am.  We thought our program was same as last night but repeat 4X.  That has been the pattern anyways.  So that is what we did.   Well come to find out......it was supposed to be 5X.   Next time we'll check our schedule!

Anyways.....tomorrow is a rest day.  Saturday is an easy 35 minute walk and then Sunday is the same time segments but 6X and then add 2 min.  That will be the longest run yet.  So Amber & I decided we're going to eat good and not drink this weekend so that Sunday is a good run.  I'll report back then.....

Have a great weekend.  Happy Running!!!

Who ever thought???

Who ever thought I would enjoy getting up at 4:45 am to go running?  That was a thought that never would have crossed my mind a couple of months ago.

Amber & I met at 5:15 this morning.  Walk 10 minutes, run 3, walk 2...repeat 4X.  Then we finished with a 5 minute run and then cool down walk.  Tomorrow's program bumps up to 4 minute intervals......but we're ready!

We're trying to decide.....do we have more energy to run in the morning before work or after work?  When do you run?  Morning or night?

Happy Running!

Roger, hope you were able to get the safety cones you were looking for!

Longest Run yet........

Today our program was Run 3 min, Walk 2, repeat 6X and then run 2 min.  Well since we are overachievers.....We ran 3 min, walked 2, ran 5 min, walked 2.  Repeated 3 times.  So we ran for a total of 24 minutes!  And we went further on the trail and also cut our time down a little.  Progress!  Every time we run we are seeing progress and I love that!

Amber & I were talking about how we can tell the difference in our run.....depending on what we ate, drank and how much sleep we got.   If you want good running results.....you really need to live a healthy lifestyle (most of the time anyways!).  We're really learning a lot about ourselves!  We're especially learning that we can push ourselves a lot further than we thought we could.

Tomorrow is a cross training or walking day.

Have a great week!  Happy Running!

It's the weekend....

Friday is a rest day.....a much needed rest day this week too!

Today Rob & I got up and went to the bike trails and walked 3.75 miles.  I did run for 5 minutes but other than that......we walked.  Todays program is an easy walk for 30 minutes. Tomorrow is Run 3 min, walk 2 min.....repeat 6X.   And maybe we'll throw in an extra 5 or 10 minute run.

ASR is doing a 10K training program for sure.  I'm going to sign up for that.  This really is PERFECT timing for me.

I never thought I'd say this.....but I'm really enjoying running.  I think I might be a runner when I grow up!

Enjoy your weekend!  Happy Running!

Oh and Roger........Amber was having a hard time posting with her Gmail account.  I think she said she was able to post by just putting in her name.  Google is weird sometimes......so give that a try!

2 Runs to report.....

Wednesday nights class was HOT!  I'd say only half of the people showed up for class.  It was 93 degrees and humid....and I thought to myself.......this is going to be tough!  It was.  But we made it through our 3 minute run, 2 min walk.....repeat 5 times.  Amber & I did stop one time and take a break during one of our runs.....BUT then we made up for it and ran an extra 2 minutes.  We were wiped out after that run!!

Today we got up and ran at 5:15 am.  Today's program was run 3 minutes, 2 minutes walk.....repeat 4X.  We did that and then.......we ran 10 minutes straight!!!  I was pretty proud of us!  My legs are a little sore.....and I'm sure tomorrow I'll be stiff.  But Friday is a rest day so I'm looking forward to that!

Happy Running!!!

Up Bright and Early

Amber & I ran at 5:15am this morning to avoid the heat.......High today of 98!  yuck!  So we met at the trails and did our program.  Today was Run 2 min, walk 2 min....repeat 3X.  We did it 4X.  It wasn't easy with the humidity.......but we made it.

Tomorrow night is our class.  Really hot again tomorrow AND our program tomorrow night is run 3 min, walk 2 min....repeat 5X.  Now that is going to be tough!!  But we'll do it!!

Do you still run outside when it is this hot?  Do you find you don't have as much energy?  Does it just take some getting used to?

Have a great day!  Happy Running!

All By Myself

Sunday was my first run all by myself.  How boring.  The program was to run 2 min, walk 2 min...repeat 5X.  I did it and then ran an extra minute.  I do much better running with Amber.  We both run at the same pace and we encourage and push each other along.

Saturday night I had to get my walk in......so Rob & I went to the bike trails.  I ran a few minutes here and there.  He even ran with me.....well ahead of me.  His pace is much faster than mine so I didn't really like running with him.  But I got my walk in and steps in....so I was happy.

Today is a cardio/do anything day besides running.  Tonight I'm going to ride my exercise bike.  My "good" knee (the one that I didn't have surgery on) has been hurting a little bit.  So a bike ride will probably be a good idea tonight before I tackle the next 3 days of running in a row.

Have a great week!  Happy Running!  And stay cool......sounds like the next few days are going to be cookers here.  Yuck!!!

We ran 5 minutes straight today!

This morning had to be an early run......my 4 yr old niece is coming over for the day.  So Amber & I met at 6am.  Our "program" for the day was run 2 min, walk 2 min.....repeat 3x.  We did that and then we ran 5 minutes straight!  We were pretty proud of ourselves.  We were both pretty tired since we ran last night and then were up early to do it again today.....but we did it!!!

Tomorrow is a rest day....and Saturday an easy 30 minute walk.  Sunday will be my first by myself run.......Amber will be out of town.  So it will be a good test to see how much I push myself!

Have a great day!  Happy Running!!!

Uphill twice?

Tonight was our 2nd run together as a Beginner's Group.  A lot of people didn't show up......not all 64 people were there tonight.  We'll see what next week brings.

Our run tonight was run 2 minutes, walk 2 minutes....repeat 4 times.  Then finish off with a 3 minute run.  Well our first run was uphill.......WOW.  I said to Amber as we were running....I don't know about this one.  She said, don't you dare stop.  So I didn't.....we kept going.  And I convinced another lady to keep going too.  So we made it through our 4 runs...and then the final 3 minute run came.....uphill AGAIN.  Our coach Brenda was at the top of the hill coaching us.....keep looking at me, don't look down, use your arms, keep going.  And then I made it up....Amber too.  WOW.  That was a tough one.  Then it was cool down time.  But we had a surprise 2 more minute run during our cool down.  So tonight we went 2.92 miles in 45 minutes.  Not bad considering we walk the first 10 minutes.  It is REALLY great to run with a group.  We all really push ourselves harder and encourage each other more than we would if we were just running by ourselves.

Tonight they mentioned going into a 10K training after our 5K training is done.  It will depend on how many people they get.  I sure hope they get enough!  It would be for the race in Janesville on 9/24.  I'll be out of town and won't be able to be in the race......BUT I really hope we get enough people for the training program.  That would be perfect for leading into the half!

I'm exhausted.  I'm meeting Amber at 6 am tomorrow for our Thursday run.  I think I'm going to be sore......but no pain, no gain.  Have a great night!!! Happy Running!

Almost 14K steps in today

I'm off this week.....so I don't have any excuse not to get my steps in.  Went grocery shopping this morning and then clothes shopping.  Met a friend for lunch and then met Amber after she was done with work for our run. Today we ran a minute,  walked 2, ran 2 minutes, walked 2.  We repeated that 2 times and then ran one more minute.  We got our 5 runs in....so we were happy.  Tomorrow night is our group run class.  Plus we run on Thursday so we didn't really want to overdue it tonight with the heat.  I'm not a fan of the heat and humidity....so this running in the heat is going to take some getting used to!

Happy Running!  I'll report back after our run class tomorrow night!

Run is done for the day......

Amber & I met at 8 am this morning for our run.  Our "program" was to do the same as we've been doing and repeat 4x.  Well.....we repeated it 5x and THEN.....we walked 4 minutes, ran 3 minutes, walked a couple minutes and then ran 3 more minutes.  We were pretty proud of ourselves...  So I feel good with our progress in just this week!

Tomorrow is a cardio day.....anything but running.  We're meeting up again on Tuesday for our next run.  I'm off this next week.....but I think I'm still going to meet up with Amber after she is done with work.  We seem to push ourselves more when we run together.

Have a great day!  Theresa, how is the training going for you?  Glad to be back running?

Enjoy your day off tomorrow everyone!  Take care - Love ya! Tina

Done with Day 2

My friend Amber and I met tonight after work to do our run/walk.  We went to the bike trails down off of Ruger Ave.  Pretty nice area.  Our workout today was supposed to be 10 min walking, 1 min run, 2 walk.....repeat 3X and then 10 minute cooldown. Well....we repeated it 5X.  We're slow......but steady.  We run/walk at the same pace so it works out really well for us.  And we keep each other on task.

Tomorrow is a rest day. Then Saturday is a slow 30 minute walk and Sunday is back to running.....with Monday as a cardio day (something other than running) and Tuesday is running.

I feel good.  Today was a little easier than yesterday.  I think after a few times of running outside.....I'll be comfortable with it.  Up until now......98% of my running has been on the treadmill.  So going outside I feel like I'm starting over.

Well have a great night.......Happy Running!  - Tina

I survived!

There were 60+ people for the first night of our beginners program!  WOW.  We walked around 10 -12 minutes and then ran a minute, walked a minute.  We repeated that 4 times and then finished it up with walking back to All Season Runner.  2 times our "runs" were up hill.  It was nice to run with a group......I definitely pushed myself more than I would have if I had been alone.

We got our 9 week training schedule and also did some stretching afterwards.  We had 4 coaches that helped us along.  We split into groups.......walkers, beginners and advanced beginners.  I stuck with the beginners.  It is definitely harder to run outside than on my treadmill.....especially with those hills!  But Amber & I pushed through it and we're going to run together tomorrow too.

Very fun!  Looking forward to the next 9 weeks and our 5K race!!  Thanks to Theresa & Roger for suggesting the half marathon.....I think I'm going to enjoy running!!!

Happy Running!  Have a good night.

Tomorrow is the big day for me.......

The "official" start of my running career.  Tomorrow starts a 9 week training program with a goal of running a 5K on July 27th.  I feel like what I've been doing is "preparing" and tomorrow it gets official.  I'm really excited about it.  My friend Amber is too.  We're talking about running a few other 5K's after the July one.  She did tell me I'm on my own for the half marathon though.....but maybe I can change her mind.  :-)

Glad to have you back with us Theresa!  And that's awesome that you have kept the weight off.  With tomorrow being my "official" start......I'm hoping to shed a few pounds in the next couple of months as well.

Roger & Tammy - have you been running?  The weather was perfect today for a run.

Today I got on my treadmill and did 2 miles running and walking.  Got in about 12K steps.  As my running time increases.....it will be interesting to see how my steps increase per day.

I'll let you know how the first run goes tomorrow night.  Happy Running to everyone!  Love ya!

Lazy Monday

I didn't have much for ambition tonight...but I did get on my treadmill and run/walk for 30 minutes. Got my 10k+ steps in today too.

My computer froze up right now so I'm using my phone....so this will be short.

Waiting to get my training program from ASR. 2 more days and my class starts.

Have a good week....happy running.

Weekend

No exercise all weekend.....just running after a 1 year old all weekend.  Back at it tonight.  I kinda feel crappy after not exercising.....that's a GOOD THING!!!!

Happy Monday!  Have a great week.

SOOOOO close......

I'm always up for a challenge and when the question was asked.....can you run a mile yet?  I thought, I sure think so.  So I was determined all day at work.....I'm going home and I'm going to run a mile straight.  So I got home, got my shoes on and downstairs I went.  Stretched out a little...put my Ipod on and away I went.  I got to 8 minutes and had to stop....killer shin splints.  (Some days I get them, some days I don't.)  So I walked for a minute and then started running again.  I had to stop one more time for a minute.....but I finished a mile off with MOSTLY running.  Then I did another mile.....alternating running and walking.  Tonight I felt like I did the most running I've done......so I'm good with that.  I didn't quite make my mile of straight running....but that will come soon!

And it's 4:50 and I've already got my 10K steps in!

We're babysitting for my 1 1/2 yr old nephew this weekend (half sister Sarah's son).....so I'm sure I won't have any problem getting my steps in this weekend!  He never stops!!!  I'm hoping to still squeeze in a run or two this weekend.  And I should try to get up early tomorrow morning too....we'll see how that goes!

Happy Running! Have a good weekend.

Half way through the week.....

No running for me today.  Tomorrow I will finish week 4......but I do think that I will for sure repeat and do this week again.  Tonight I did a little on my elliptical....did some shopping also.  So I got my 10K steps in.

Did you exercise today?  What did you do?

Roger, do we have to sign up for the Milton 4th of July run?  My friend Amber is going to do the mile run with me.  We'll be 6 weeks into our Beginner running program so we should be able to do the mile run......even if I do have a few beers the night before at Summerfest.  :-)

We're more than half way through the week.......Have a good night!  Happy Running.

2nd day of Week 4....

KICKED MY BUTT!!  Actually, it was a little easier than Sunday morning....but still tough.  However......now that I'm done.....I'm glad I did it.  I thought about skipping the last 5 minute run and walk.....but I didn't!

One week from tomorrow and I start running with the Beginner group.  I'm excited!

Roger, no can do on the 24th of Sept.  I'll be in Cincinnati at a tradeshow.  I got out of that one!  haha!!  I do hope to find another 5K this fall....maybe a couple of them.  I'll have to check on line and see what I can find......

Have a great night.  Happy Running!!!

Sunday, May 15, 2011

That was tough!

I just completed Week 4, Day 1.  That was TOUGH!!!  But I made it through.  I had to really convince myself to keep going during the last 5 minute run.  I'm thinking I may do Week 4 2 times.  We'll see how it goes this week and then I'll decide.

I'm thinking I might run the mile race on the 4th of July.  I'm going to Kid Rock/Summerfest the night before...so we'll see how late we get home and how I feel.  I'm thinking cheesecurds and beer the night before might not make for a very early morning on the 4th, but we'll see.

I saw there was a half marathon/marathon in Janesville this fall.  I'm thinking next year I will do that.  I really hope that I make running a part of my daily life.....as long as my knee and body agrees......that is my plan.

Happy Sunday!  Happy Running!  Have a great week!

TGIF!

I was up early this morning and did Week 3, Day 3 again.  I figured since it was a little difficult to get through this week.....another day wouldn't hurt.  And I did make it through it a little easier.....so I was happy I did it.  I'm going out for drinks with some friends tonight.....so I was proud of myself for making running a priority by getting up this morning.  3 weeks ago....I would of just skipped it.  PROGRESS!!!

Googles Blogger has been down for over a day and I see that Wednesdays posts are erased for now.  But I'm glad to see it is functional today.

Tomorrow I'm thinking I'll tackle Week 4.  We'll see how that goes.  I am determined to make it through it.....it might take more than a week, it might not......but I WILL make it through it.

Have a fantastic weekend!  Happy Running!!!

Roger & Tammy - when is your next race?

Theresa - are you still going to the KettleBell gym?  There is one in Janesville now.  It's pretty pricey.....but I hear it kicks your butt!!

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Week 3......

is complete!  Next week's program looks tough.... jog 3 min, walk 90 seconds, jog 5 min, walk 2 1/2 min, jog 3 min, walk 90 sec, jog 5 min.  I've tried this C25K program before and never made it through week 4 and gave up........so this next week will be the true test of my commitment!  I'm going to do it though!!!  So ask me next week........make sure I'm pushing through it!!!  And then the following week I'll start the program at ASR.

My friend Amber is all signed up at ASR to run with me.  She went and got fitted for some good shoes so we're both all set.  Another co-worker is thinking about it too...

This is also a good distraction for me right now.  Grainger/Lab Safety announced the sale of more of our companies.  We previously had 8 companies, I think.  Well they are selling off all of them except Lab Safety.  So obviously we don't need 800 people to run just Lab Safety.  So it's a little stressful not knowing if we have jobs or not.......SOOOO this is perfect timing for training and running.  Keeps my mind off of work and also is a great stress reliever.

Time to go get my hair cut and colored.....have a good night.  Happy Running!  And P.S.....the Brewers SUCKED today.

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

It's HOT out today!!!

No running today......just walked on my treadmill for a half an hour.  Tomorrow I'll finish up Week 3 of the C25K program.  I really hate this heat.......especially this early.  I'm going to have to try and get used to it with running outside.  I'll probably be doing that early in the morning or late at night......I prefer winter.

I don't have anything else today......Have a good night!

Hi Theresa and Tammy!

Monday, May 9, 2011

Week 3, Day 2

is complete.  Today was tough.....but I made it through it.  It's strange....one day I feel like running is pretty easy....the next day I feel like I'm gonna die.  I guess it just takes time.....and depends on how my body feels, I guess.

Went to ASR and paid for my Beginners program.  I guess I missed seeing you there this afternoon Roger.   How are you feeling by the way?  Back to normal?  Or sore?

Off to bed early for me.  Have a great week!!!!

Week 3...day 1

Completed week 3, day 1 early this morning. Then I got in the car on my way to Lake Geneva. Rob & I were at the finish line when Roger & Tammy crossed it. How motivating! I can't wait for March!!!  Rob says he is going to start running too.....we'll see.  That is totally up to him.   No pressure from me.

Happy Mother's Day Theresa!
CONGRATS to Roger & Tammy!

Beginner Running Program

Last night was the informational meeting for the Beginner to 5K program.  I am really looking forward to it!  There were about 35 people there.  All ages and sizes.  I think it is going to be a fun group to run with.  We'll start the program on May 25th.  We'll run together every Wednesday.  We'll get an email each week with our schedule/training program for the week.  Our goal is to run a 5K on July 27th.  I'm really excited!!!

Hope your week is going good.  Happy Running!  Tonight I'll finish Week 2 of the C25K program on my ipod.

Roger - I'll see you at the finish line on Saturday! (unless it is raining...I might melt in the rain)

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Week 2, Day 2......complete

I was a little worried as to whether or not I'd make it through today's walk/run.  I'm sore from all of the moving yesterday.  Maybe girls shouldn't try to move big oak tables, wooden trunks, antique ice chests, etc by themselves....lesson learned.  BUT I did make it through....and without shin splints too!  Tammy gave me a little tip the other day about stretching my calves by standing on the edge of a step.  And that has really helped.  Thanks for the tip!

Tomorrow is the meeting for the Beginner to 5K program/training.  I guess 25 people are signed up.  My friend Amber says she is going with me so it should be fun to have someone to run with at my beginning level.  And I'm looking forward to meeting some new people to run with too!

I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to be able to make it to Lake Geneva Saturday morning.  I have to be back in Milton by noon.  Will I have enough time Roger?

Have a great day.  Happy Running!!!

Monday, May 2, 2011

18K steps today.......

and I didn't even exercise!  I took the afternoon off to help a friend (that is going through divorce) move into her new house.  WOW.  I'm tired and sore!  Started at 11 am and it's now 7:35.  I'm beat.  Nothing left in me for exercising.  So I guess I'll run tomorrow.  I think I got plenty of exercising in with taking 18K steps!

Have a great night....and week!  I've gotta take a hot bath and get some sleep!

Sunday, May 1, 2011

Got my 10K steps in but......

Not a lot of energy left at the end of the day today to exercise.  Spent the day cleaning, grocery shopping, running errands, cooking for the week, laundry, etc.....and then it got to be 6:30 and I decided it was time to exercise.  I only spent about 15 minutes on the treadmill and I was done.  I checked my pedometer and I was at 10,461 steps.  So.....I guess I'm OK with that.

Tomorrow is Day 2 of Week 2 of C25K.  Looking forward to that.  I'm also helping a friend move tomorrow afternoon........maybe I should get up in the morning to exercise??  We'll see how that goes.

Have a great week! Can't believe it is May 1st already!

Saturday, April 30, 2011

Week 2, Day 1

I just completed Week 2 Day 1.  This weeks program is walk 5 minutes, run 90 seconds, walk 2 minutes....repeat 6 times and then a 5 minute cool down. I increased my running speed a little bit today too.  A little progress every day.......

I had misplaced my pedometer earlier this week.  I found it last night.  Glad to have it back.  I try to make sure I get in 10K steps each day.  It's 12:30 and I've already got 9K steps in!

I took the day off yesterday from exercising.  I think 5-6 days a week is good.  Do you agree?

Enjoy your day!!!  One week from today Roger & Tammy!!  How exciting!!!

Theresa - you haven't puked from exercise class again I hope!

Talk to ya soon.
